Important

The most important thing about my dad is that he's my dad.
I like when my dad plays with me.
And I like when my dad is there for me.
I like when he plays video games with me.
And I like when he helps me with my reading.
But the most important thing about my dad is that he's my dad.

DCPC practices a comprehensive approach with families and children. We believe children benefit from a strength-based approach that focuses on the unique challenges faced by each of our families. Our Family Services staff focuses on supporting and strengthening families, building self-confidence and developing greater self-sufficiency. Specialists and programs are available through our organization in the following areas:

  • Parent Education
  • Employment
  • Alcohol & Other Drug Addiction (AODA)
  • Healthy Lifestyles
  • Learning English
  • Achieving a High School Diploma
  • Housing

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Staff is responsible for providing opportunities for and encouraging meaningful involvement of every family in their child's education -- for the benefit of their child as well as themselves. Parent Involvement staff publish a monthly newsletter for all families, help implement Family Fun Nights, and provide administrative support to parents on the DCPC Head Start Council.

MALE INVOLVEMENT

Our Male Involvement Specialist provides opportunities for fathers (as well as father figures) to have meaningful interactions with their children through planned activities. Trips to the circus, zoo, and other events bring children together with their fathers. Many of our male staff members participate in events with the fathers of children enrolled in our program. If you are interested in participating in our Male Involvement program, please contact the Male Involvement Specialist at (608) 275-6740.

SHARED GOVERNANCE

Parents involved in any DCPC program have the ability to be involved in shared decision making for the organization. Every program has an elected Parent Advisory Committee Representative that participates on the DCPC Head Start Policy Council (HSPC). Each parent group within DCPC may look a little different, but the objective of providing opportunities for parent input into program services remains the same throughout the organization.

We can also refer you to the Family Resource Center at Head Start.
