Even Start Family Literacy
A Community Working Together To Improve Family Literacy
DCPC and eleven elementary schools from the Madison and Verona School Districts provide integrated family literacy services. This includes biweekly activities, case management, and a strength-based family literacy philosophy.
The program serves families at multiple locations. Adult Basic Education (ABE), General Education Development (GED), and English as a Second Language (ESL) instruction are provided for parents. While parents are engaged in these activities, children receive educational programming.
Parent-child activities are a major part of the family literacy classes and parents and children attend together. These parent-child activities are based on the Motheread-Fatheread curriculum and regular home visits help parents and staff develop plans that are specifically designed for each family's unique needs and goals.
The vision of Even Start Family Literacy is to ensure a better future for our children, families, neighborhoods, and communities by combining the strengths and resources of school districts and community agencies.
